Maker’s bio

Hello…my name is Terry. For as long as I can remember I have loved to draw and paint. I come from an artistic family; my mother was an art and textile teacher and taught me to sew. My father excelled in technical drawing and made precision furniture pieces. As a girl I made clothes for my dolls and later my own clothes and re-designed items I bought at markets. I continued to sew, paint and draw in my adult years and more recently I have been able to devote a greater amount of time to my inner creative vision. I have designed an art space in my house and intend to further develop my love for textile art and design.

I am currently enrolled on a textile course in Liskeard where I am enjoying exploring a range of techniques which inform my textile pieces. I am particularly interested in abstract design and free motion embroidery with mixed media elements. The majority of my pieces have been created for assessment purposes, family and friends but I am looking to expand my reach to produce commissioned pieces and some stitched textile cards and bookmarks to sell.

I have been guided in my practice by some fantastic local artists where I live in Downderry and in Ocean Studios, Royal William Yard Plymouth.

My inspiration comes from the coastal location where I live and a study of modern urban architecture. I continue to develop my practice by experimenting with rust and botanical dyeing, print making, drawing and painting. My desire is to work collaboratively with my fellow creatives and to see where my own creative journey leads.
